Cat scream syndrome
Cat cry syndrome (or cri du chat syndrome) is a rare genetic disease caused by the deletion of part of chromosome 5. Identified by the French doctor Jérôme Lejeune in 1963, it has an incidence of one case in every 50,000 live births. The syndrome takes its name from the plaintive cry, similar to the cat’s meow, characteristic of affected individuals.
