Rhino-sinuso-bronchial syndrome

This term indicates a series of anatomical-clinical conditions with inflammatory characteristics, especially of an infectious type and, sometimes allergic, characterized by chronic rhino-sinusitis or nasal polyposis and sinusitis which, over time, become complicated with recurrent bronchitis or bronchial asthma.   It is a pathology of both ENT and pneumological interest, which refers to both disciplines. Rhino-sinusobronchial syndrome (RBS) is therefore defined as a disease that affects the upper airways and the tracheo-bronchial tree, the former as the site of the pathogenic noxa and the latter as the target organ, with compromise of the immune system of both systems and bronchial hyperreactivity.   It is therefore clear that in SRB therapy, the control of infection/inflammation of the rhino-sinus area is essential for the management of the resulting bronchial asthma.   We can find this pathophysiological correlation between the inflammation of the nasal passages and asthma in some clinical pictures: rhinitis and asthma, rhino-sinusitis and asthma, nasal polyposis and asthma.   This differentiation is more didactic than pathophysiological because often, in different patients affected by SRB, the clinical pictures overlap with different nuances. This pathology can be treated with a personalized treatment plan that our team is able to provide you.
